What “Better Together” Means to Me
By Doug Poindexter, President, World Pet Association
What a time it is to be part of the pet industry! I’m often asked what inspires the show theme for SuperZoo each year, and the short answer is always the same: it’s chosen to reflect what’s going on in our industry. This year’s theme, “Better Together,” is no exception. Whether you’re a long-time pet professional, like I am, or you’re new to the wild and wonderful world of animal products and services, you’ve likely noticed that the industry is growing by leaps and bounds. This exponential growth has opened up a wider array of business opportunities—and business challenges—than we’ve ever seen before, and it’s critical for all of us in the industry to work together.
From suppliers and manufacturers to consumer-facing retailers and pet service pros, SuperZoo gathers professionals from all sectors of the industry to find solutions, share ideas, source new products and make long-lasting connections that will move the industry forward. The 2017 theme of “Better Together” represents the value we at SuperZoo place on uniting to grow, learn and support the industry that has long supported us.
Consumers aren’t the only folks who consider their furry, four-legged, feathered and web-footed friends as integral parts of their family. We as an industry strive to make the world a better place for pets and their people, too, and when we open the lines of communication all the way from the pet parent back to the manufacturer, I think we as an industry are much stronger and can achieve so much more.
In my decades of work in pet retail, I’ve seen the positive changes that can occur when we all work together for the good of the industry and the good of the animals. We truly are “Better Together.” I look forward to seeing you at SuperZoo and seeing what more we can achieve for pets, pet professionals and the pet industry as a whole when we put forth a united front.
